A BOOK RELEASE REFLECTION: Celebrating The High Place

It has been almost 3 weeks since my newest book, IN A HIGH PLACE: Black Motherhood and A Woman Rising Poetry Collection, came out on Amazon and I have truly felt the love.

I wondered if people still read poetry. They say write the book you want to read. Don’t write it for other people. Even while writing, I still wondered. It’s a book that helped (helps) me heal. Journal entries from my own thoughts, feelings, and disappointments. Reflections of the love in nature, in my heart, in my life. Heartbreaks written bare because writing it down is a part of the healing journey. Motherhood isn’t all rainbows. Sometimes it’s storms and traffic and marching to get to the rainbow; to see the sunlight. Sometimes motherhood is sitting in low places but knowing there are high places ready to embrace you. Sometimes we experience those high places. Sometimes we need a community to carry us to them. Sometimes motherhood washes us away leaving our memory with those we love. Grief doesn’t disappear just because everyone else moved on. The journey eventually gets smoother but we need each other.

We are just getting started but I wanted to say thank you 🙏🏾😭.

My heart overflows with gratitude.

Aside from the Kindle version getting the #1 new release badge in the first week, both the ebook and the paperback are still in the Top 10 for New Releases and in the Top 100 for Best Sellers in the Poetry About Places category, Top 20 and Top 70 for New Releases in the Black and African American Poetry category, and Top 40 and Top 30 for New Releases in the Motherhood category. That means it is still getting visibility being on Amazons Top 100 lists for books in their respective categories and that is more than I could’ve ever imagined.

Independent Authors rely on reviews and sharing in order to let publishing houses know that this book, more specifically this topic of Black Motherhood and healing, is something people resonate with and enjoy so if you haven’t yet, please leave a review, share on your social media, and get extra copies to gift to people in your life.

On 11/17/21 the IN A HIGH PLACE VIRTUAL BOOK TOUR kicked off on Instagram where we discussed the themes of the book, motherhood, the high place and more. If you missed it, check out the replay below or on my Youtube channel.

People have been sharing pictures of their books and I love how the book has been placed near plants and cozy spaces which is beautiful! I would love to see pictures of your books or pictures of you with your books. Tag me on Instagram and Facebook.

The road back to her is always open.

Even if

Bridges have burned and

the path feels narrow and

a detour took you the long way with

cash tolls and heavy traffic because

the scenic route had to teach you and stretch you and

even if

the crowd has dispersed and

the fog refuses to lift and

your legs don’t move at the same pace as

your heart runs blindly in an unfamiliar direction because

true love always finds its way

back

and you

you deserve to feel like yourself

again
